I’m about to get a delicious sandwich and thought I would try out this app while waiting.

Decided to start shooting some photos with my DSLR. I got this camera with the main intention of being able to shoot my projects and models. The kits lens isn’t the best thing in the world and I am looking into getting a macro lens which should be far better for shooting scale models in the future. The depth of field on the current lens is just a little too shallow. I also got a tripod which will help greatly in doing long exposures to avoid having harsh shadows on my models. Anyways, I think the camera will really improve the visuals of the site, because I know for damn sure the this new camera is a hell of a lot better than the iPhone’s pathetic camera.

Here are a few example shots I did with it:

I’m sorry I haven’t posted in awhile. I just wasn’t keeping up with the site. I don’t really have any excuses other than I didn’t know if people were reading.
After checking my website stats it seems that some people are indeed reading. But it is what they are reading about that surprises me. Video games and movies aren’t even on the radar. It is Gundam and DIY projects that people seem to be interested in. I guess you can get all your Video Games news from 1up or Kotaku, but there is a niche market for Gunpla and video game hardware mods. My most viewed and searched articles so far have been the Rock Band Foot Pedal Mod and the Gundam Unicorn topics. So I am going to try to give you guys, if you are still reading, what you want and post more projects and less reviews. Bring on the soldering iron and X-acto knives.

I decided to goof around in Assassin’s Creed today, maybe collect some flags or stab some Templars (I often enjoy stabbing). A Live update was downloaded and I didn’t really make note of it. I noticed a few new gameplay elements that I thought I had maybe missed somehow. Altair has two new stealth blade kills, one which he kicks his opponents knee out and stabs him downward in the neck and another where he stabs them up under the chin and lays them on the grab like a sleeping child. I also noticed I can now perform counter kills with the assassin’s blade, which I don’t believe I was able to do before.
Let me know if these aren’t new or let me know if you see anything else new.
Edit: It seems the guards are less touchy about riding your house at speeds beyond SNAIL now too.

I decided to make a Facebook group for the website to encourage discussion of the latest movements in entertainment. Why Facebook? Because I like it the best, got a problem with that!? Head over there, join up if you don’t already have an account and become a member of the group.

Starting tonight at midnight and lasting until 3A.M. Halloween night, online matchmaking in Halo 3 will include the “Infection” game type and maybe other surprises (I assume this is probably only in social playlists). The point of the mode is to kill as many zombie infected player who can only wield swords. The catch is if a zombie kills you, you become infected. Looking on Bungie.net there are quite a few interesting medals you can get in this game type that are similar to the different spree medals. Can you survive the zombie outbreak? Master Chief craves brains and I crave some multiplayer goodness!
I wonder what the Christmas will be like? Maybe assault where you have to sneak in and plant Playstation 3’s under the opposing team’s festive trees?
See you chumps online, look out for Cronofiend. Aim true, aim for the head Spartans.

Not much has changed in the Need For Speed formula since “Underground” and “Carbon” and from this demo I don’t really anticipate this game being very much different. Expect lavishly painted and decal ridden tuner cars, tuned up with nitrous and huge turbo chargers with overly loud blow-off valves racing to be the “King” at whatever race type of the four you may be doing. In the demo you get to drive a BMW M3 in a “Speed King” race through 5 check points at which they clock your speed, highest total speed wins. The other you drive a new Nissan GT-R in a “Grip King” race, which is your basic first to finish two laps wins. The graphics look great and the car damage is a nice addition but I don’t think it will make my cut for my holiday shopping list with so many other spectacular titles just over the horizon.P.S. There was a weird graphical issue that messed with my eyes on the grip king race. I’m not sure how to describe it but when I went through the tunnel it was very hard to focus my eyes, maybe it was the frame rate. Did anyone else have this problem?

It has been a few weeks since I have started developing the Spoylr and I have finally worked out all the kinks (no thanks to IE) and I’m am pretty pleased with how it turned out, as I hope our reader will be too. The site came as a vision of myself and a few friends. We wanted a place where we could review or just talk about the latest in all things geek culture, from video games to cool toys. The idea for the site is to have a place to express our thoughts on what matters to us as young consumers in a digital world and even get some feedback from our peers. The Spoylr writers are a bunch of twenty something guys (so far) from Virginia Beach. We have a web and graphic designer (that’s me), a film student, a web design student and full-time manager of a second hand video game and movie store, and a substitute teacher and aspiring writer. We hope to expand to podcasting in the near future.
On a trip to Washington D.C. I finally came up with the idea for a 1950’s theme with Fallout 3 coming out soon (1 and 2 being two of my favorite games of all time) and the recent success of Bioshock it made sense to me. So the mascot is basically my splice of Buddy Holly, pretty much the coolest geek ever, and the Pipboy, the mascot of the Fallout series who was based on the same style as the Monopoly man.
We hope everyone can enjoy the new site and thanks for visiting, and if you dig our site, remember to “Digg” our site!
